2 officers killed in police station attack in northern Benin
KIGALI, Rwanda (AA) – Two police officers and two assailants were killed when motorbike-riding gunmen opened fire at a police station in northern Benin on Sunday.
The police station in the Dassari district near the border with Burkina Faso was attacked at 2 a.m. local time. Besides those killed, one officer was wounded, according to security sources.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The district’s administrative head reportedly confirmed the attack, saying that calm had been restored following “army reinforcement.”
The assailants also set ablaze impounded motorcycles at the station.
This was the second such attack on a police station in two months.
In April, a group of armed men attacked a police station in northern Benin near the border with Niger and killed an officer before setting fire to the building.
