2 Gazans executed for ‘spying for Israel’
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Hamas-run authorities in the Gaza Strip executed two people suspected of spying for Israel, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
A ministry statement said one of the suspects had worked with Israeli intelligence service since 2001 and provided Tel Aviv with information that led to the death of two people.
The other suspect provided Israel with information about the Palestinian resistance, which led to the death of one Palestinian and the injury of others in Israeli attacks, it said.
Hamas-run security forces launch frequent crackdowns on suspected spies in Gaza.
Suspects always face trial behind closed doors, while the media is usually prevented from covering the proceedings.
Meanwhile, the ministry said three other people were executed after being convicted of murder.
Home to 2.3 million people, the Gaza Strip has been reeling under a years-long Israeli siege since 2007, badly affecting livelihood in the Palestinian territory.
