15 MUSLIMS KILLED IN BRONX FIRE REMEMBERED IN CEREMONY
The Bronx Islamic Cultural Center in Morrisania held a somber ceremony Sunday for 15 of the 17 victims of last weekend’s Bronx apartment fire.
Caskets were wheeled into the center from hearses lined up the block on both sides of Clay Avenue.
The youngest victim was 2-year-old Ousmane Konteh.
The fire broke out at 333 East 181st St., where Ousmane had been at a babysitter’s home.
Two of the child victims, Haouwa Mohamadou, age 5, and her brother, Seydou Toure, age 12, had funerals days earlier at a small mosque in Harlem.
Fifteen years ago the Bronx Islamic Center held another large-scale funeral with small caskets.
Nine children from the Magassa and Soumare families were killed in that fire, as well as the mother of four of the children.
They were all Muslims originally from Mali.
