10,000 Muslims Are Dead In Ukraine
Ukraine’s Muslim community estimates that 10,000 Muslims have died in the Russian aggression, so far.
A Muslim group with historical ties to Ukraine spoke about the toll amid escalating violence.
The Manitoba Islamic Association in Canada hosted a virtual discussion with President of the Muslim Council of Ukraine Sheikh Seyran Aryfov in Lviv LEE VIV on Sunday.
Idris Elbakri, a member of the association’s board of directors, said Ukraine is home to an ancient Muslim community.
The first documented emergence of Islamic culture in Ukraine came in the 19th century.
But Ukraine’s southern region of Crimea was once governed by Tatars.
Aryfov, who is of Tartar ancestry, estimates there were about 1.5 million Muslims living in Ukraine before Russia’s invasion.
